The star-shaped, glossy green leaves make the sweetgum’s crown. In the fall, the leaves change to yellow-purple-red and remain on the tree until later in the winter. When young, sweetgum has a pyramidal shape – this changes with time, becoming more rounded as the tree becomes older. 
• Slash pine – Tolerant to a wide variety of soils, the slash pine reaches maturity at a height of 75 to 100 feet and a crown width of 30 to 50 feet. An evergreen tree, slash pine keeps its leaves throughout the year. Fast-growing, the tree starts providing shade in a small amount of time.
