• Chinese empress tree – The Chinese empress tree is a fast growing, deciduous tree native to central and western China. However, it has been naturalized in the U.S. areas such as Baytown. The tree grows to about 82 feet tall and is adorned with fragrant, lilac flowers during the spring season to make it an attractive ornamental tree.
• Wild black cherry tree – The wild black cherry tree is a shrub-like deciduous tree. • Texas Ash – A native tree, the Texas ash tree is a deciduous fast growing, and medium-sized tree, with a height of about 33 feet tall. The tree grows beautiful purple flowers in small clusters during the spring season and makes a great addition to any home garden or park. 
• Cedar elm – The cedar elm tree is native in south central North America, mainly in southern and eastern Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana. In fact, it is the most common elm tree in the city; growing in flat valley bottom areas. The medium to large-sized deciduous tree grows to about 60 feet tall and features a round crown with medium-sized dark green foliage. During the late summer to early fall seasons, the ornamental tree produces apetalous small reddish purplish colored flowers. 

In addition to its regular tree species, Baytown hosts a selection of heritage and landmark trees under its tree ordinance protection program. Amongst the common trees include sycamore and different oak tree types such as live oak, bur oak, and water oak.

You will see the trees growing in different parts of the city, yet, you can enjoy most species in many of the city’s nature reserves and parks. In fact, the city’s parks and recreation department has so far planted over 1,000 trees in different parks to grow its tree ecosystem. These nature reserves and parks include;

• Baytown Nature Center – A 450-acre space that serves as both a recreational area and wildlife sanctuary. In addition to the different bird species, mammals, reptiles, and aquatic species in the center, you can also observe the wide selection of plant and tree species such as red maple, green ash, live oaks, and even cabbage palmettos that complement the fauna – luring a wide variety of birds, reptiles, and small mammals.
